A CONCERT of classical music is being held next month.

Christ Church, the Parish Church in Prestatyn, will hold Summer Classics - "a Concert to Refresh the Soul" - on Wednesday, August 8 at 7pm.

The Asaph Ensemble from London are an 11 strong group, made up of a string quintet, soprano voice and other instrumentalists.

A programme of popular pieces will be on the menu of the evening, including Mozart’s ‘Eine Kleine Nachtmusik’ and pieces by Albinoni, Purcell and Hadyn.

Reverend David Ash, vicar of Prestatyn, said: "This delightful event should please both aficionados and those seeking an introduction to classical music.

"This is the first time the Asaph Ensemble has brought their programme of Summer Classics to North Wales for the first time during August.

"The group, based in London, has given concerts around the South East, Bursa, Turkey and in Normandy, France. The ensemble consists of Soprano, String Quintet, Organ, Oboe and Trumpet under the direction of David Hooke.

"The ensemble's range in its instrumental line up gives scope for great variety in the programme."

Works will include Mozart’s Laudate Dominum, which soprano Nicola Hooke performed at the Royal Albert Hall in a debut appearance last year, Pachelbel’s Canon, a Sonata for two organs, a Purcell Trumpet Sonata, an Albinoni Oboe Concerto, as well as some "sparkling" Baroque battle arias for soprano, trumpets and strings.
