The school reports that funding for the annual chamber music competition has run out; the third edition, held last May and won by the Aizuri Quartet, was the last. Created by Aaron Dworkin [pictured], the school's dean from 2015 to 2017, the top prize of $100,000 was the largest in chamber music.

He succeeds Michael Tilson Thomas, who announced a year ago that he would exit in June of 2020, following a remarkable, 25-year tenure. MTT will be turning 75; Salonen is 60. News of his appointment broke 24 hours after the London Philharmonia said he would be stepping down. 
 
 
Osmo Vänskä will exit as music director of the Minnesota Orchestra as of August 2022, at the expiration of his contract. He will have been in the position for 19 years. "It is the right time for different leadership and new directions for both the orchestra and for me."
      
 
Bard College has scored a notable coup: Starting in July 2019, the renowned mezzo-soprano will be the new artistic director of its Vocal Arts Program (VAP). She succeeds Dawn Upshaw, VAP's director since she founded the program in 2006.
