Errol Flynn's portrayal of Robin Hood was to be the most expensive film ever produced at the time, and Warner Brothers needed the best composer in the business to do it justice.
Erich Wolfgang Korngold was more than up to the task, earning his 2nd Academy Award for a luscious, impassioned score that propelled the on-screen action at a galloping pace. As it turns out, this project would also save his life. Just before Korngold began working on the film, the Nazis invaded Austria and confiscated his home in Vienna. Working as a composer meant he could stay in America with his family and wait out the War, and he remained forever grateful.
