The Oslo Philharmonic invites highly qualified candidates to apply for the vacant position of Alternerende solo cello (Co-Principal Cello). We are looking for a passionate and dedicated cellist with orchestral leadership skills on and off the podium to actively contribute to the artistic and collegial life of the orchestra. The Oslo Philharmonic is a full time, salaried Norwegian orchestra playing a vital role in the cultural life of Norway. International touring, recordings and also a thriving education department are part of our daily life, along with an active chamber music series. We champion modern music, both Nordic and international, and collaborate with diverse artists across a broad repertoire. Oslo Konserthus is our home venue. The cello group welcomes applicants for the vacant position, working at the front of the group with the solo cellist, sitting in the no1 chair leading the group when required, and supporting and building the group from the no2 chair when the solo cellist is also playing. The contract for this position is approximately based on a 34 week season (with approximately 14-17 weeks in the no1 chair leading the group, the rest as no 2). The group has regular cello sectionals, and the candidate would be required to lead these in the absence of the solo cellist. The position comes with the loan of a high quality Grancino cello, the orchestra additionally contributes towards general upkeep of the instruments and bows. Main requirements: - Ideally, a completed master’s degree or equivalent qualification - Ideally, principal or front desk orchestral experience, other professional symphonic orchestral experience, and/or professional chamber music, chamber orchestra experience. Candidates who hold relevant requirements are requested to apply (in Muvac) with a CV by June 14, 2026. Invitations will be sent no later than Friday, June 19, 2026. The main audition in Oslo will take place on Sunday, October 4, 2026. Excerpts will be sent electronically to all invited candidates. Applicants without required orchestral experience may be asked to participate in a pre-round in Oslo on Saturday, October 3, 2026.
