In memory of the unforgettable Giuseppe Sinopoli and his tireless commitment to young musicians, the "Orchestra Academy of the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden" was renamed the "Giuseppe Sinopoli Academy of the Staatskapelle Dresden" on April 21, 2011, during a benefit concert marking the tenth anniversary of Sinopoli's death. This marked an important step for the continued existence and expansion of the Orchestra Academy, which now consists of up to 18 members. The training of young musicians has always played a special role for the Sächsische Staatskapelle. As early as the orchestra's founding charter from 1548, there was a stipulation that the older generation should pass on their knowledge to the younger. In the 19th century, a Kapellmusiker founded the Dresden Conservatory, and in 1923, Fritz Busch established the "Orchestra School of the Sächsische Staatskapelle." Today, young aspiring musicians are taught by experienced Kapellmusiker during their two-year training period and – ideally – prepared for an engagement with the Staatskapelle. It is this cross-generational transfer of aesthetic ideas that ensures the unique playing and sound culture of the Staatskapelle is preserved for the future.
