The Dutch region of Oost-Nederland (East Holland) is in the unique position of being the location for various institutions that stimulate the development of talented musicians. Het JeugdOrkest Nederland (JON, 14-19 years) (The Youth Orchestra of the Netherlands) and the Nationaal Jeugd Orkest (NJO, 18-26 years) (National Youth Orchestra) bridge the gap between training and actually playing in an orchestra. Almost all Dutch musicians now playing in Dutch orchestras have been members of one or both of these youth orchestras. These youth orchestras play a national role for young musicians of all conservatoria and for all orchestras.
Het Gelders Orkest (The Arnhem Philharmonic Orchestra) forms an important link in this development process and offers, within Het Gelders Orkest – Academy, places for young, very talented musicians to participate in productions while being coached by members of Het Gelders Orkest.
