Immediate vacancy for Principal Double Bass (75%)
The double bass section currently consists of a section principal, a sub-principal and four tutti players. In addition to this, we are now looking for an additional principal, who will play at first and second chair positions. You will also be adaptable for educational and social activities and stage performances in smaller settings.
Requirements for the position
It goes without saying that you will be a distinguished double bass player. Our preference would be for a player with some years of experience as a section principal. We accept players using either French or German bow styles. You must also have the leadership qualities that will allow you to inspire the section and create synergy, both musically and within the section as a whole. The position also means you will be contributing towards the orchestra's overall quality and you will be involved in literally "setting the tone" for the orchestra. You will find it enjoyable and important to cooperate in educational and social activities and projects, as well as ensemble work, in addition to your podium activities in the section. You must be a positive, engaged section leader who can strike the right balance between individuality and sectional playing.
Applications and procedure
Please submit your application no later than 21 April '22, using a fully completed application form, for which you can find the template on our website including additional information. A link to a recent, representative video clip with your own choice of repertoire is also a prerequisite.
The auditions (preliminary, first and final rounds) for this position will be held on Tuesday 7 and Wednesday 8 June 2022. Compulsory works:
-K.D. von Ditterdorf: Double Bass Concerto no. 2 in E, first movement with cadenza by H.K. Gruber and second movement (without cadenza);
