Het Metropole Orkest is op zoek naar een aanvoerder altviool.
Het Metropole Orkest staat bekend als één van de beste orkesten ter wereld voor het spelen van orkestrale ‘music with a groove‘. We spelen pop, soul, jazz, dance, hip-hop, film en wereldmuziek, daarnaast zetten we ook steeds meer in op de verbinding van deze genres. Het is onder andere vaste gast op festivals als het North Sea Jazz Festival en het Amsterdam Dance Event. Ook internationaal geniet het veel aanzien. Zo speelt het orkest sinds 2014 regelmatig op de BBC Proms in Londen, werd het 24 keer genomineerd voor een Grammy en won er vier. Het MO deelde het podium met grootheden als Dizzy Gillespie, Brian Eno, Stan Getz, Al Jarreau, Herbie Hancock en Steve Vai. En ook met toonaangevende musici van nu, zoals Michael League, Laura Mvula, Jacob Collier, Gregory Porter, DJ Hardwell en DOMi & JD BECK. Met Jules Buckley als chef-dirigent en daarnaast Vince Mendoza als honorair dirigent en Miho Hazama als vaste gastdirigent. Als internationaal leidende pop- en jazzorkest heeft het Metropole Orkest een voortrekkersrol, het schuift regelmatig nieuwe talenten naar voren en is gek op spektakel en experimenten.

Aanvoerder Altviool (60%)
Proefspel: 3 juli 2026
Als aanvoerder altviool ben jij een uitmuntend musicus met leiderschapskwaliteiten, een eigen geluid, technisch vakmanschap en een sterk gevoel voor samenspel. Jij draagt actief bij aan de realisatie van de artistieke ambities van het orkest en voelt je thuis in een omgeving waar creativiteit, veelzijdigheid en excellentie samenkomen.

Eerste ronde:
Carl Philipp Stamitz voor altviool in D, eerste deel t/m de cadens
of
Rebecca Clarke: Sonata for viola and piano Maat 1 t/m 37

Tweede ronde:
Béla Bartók: Concerto for Viola and Orchestra (Serly)1e deel t/m cadens
Voor het proefspel zullen op de grond van regelgeving uitsluitend worden uitgenodigd:
·  Nederlandse musici;
·  Buitenlandse musici die afkomstig zijn van binnen de EER (alle EU-landen, IJsland, Noorwegen en Liechtenstein) of uit Zwitserland;
·  Musici van buiten de EER en Zwitserland die in Nederland woonachtig zijn en in het bezit zijn van een ‘Arbeid vrij toegestaan’ verklaring of hun verblijfsvergunning.
De selectieprocedure
De selectie bestaat uit:
·  Voorselectie op basis van ingezonden sollicitatie;
·  Een proefspel met 2 rondes (waarvan het eerste achter een scherm);
·  Een trial in producties van het Metropole Orkest
·  Een arbeidsvoorwaardengesprek.
Arbeidsvoorwaarden:
Aanstelling in eerste instantie voor 12 maanden, met zicht op een vaste aanstelling na tussentijds evaluaties. Salaris is conform cao Stichting Metropole Orkest.

The Metropole Orkest is renowned as one of the world’s leading orchestras for performing orchestral “music with a groove.” We perform pop, soul, jazz, dance, hip-hop, film, and world music, and we increasingly focus on connecting these genres. The orchestra is a regular guest at festivals such as the North Sea Jazz Festival and the Amsterdam Dance Event, and it also enjoys great international recognition. Since 2014, the orchestra has performed regularly at the BBC Proms in London, has been nominated for a Grammy 24 times, and has won four.

Our Chief Conductor is Jules Buckley, with Vince Mendoza as Honorary Conductor and Miho Hazama as Principal Guest Conductor. As an internationally leading pop and jazz orchestra, the Metropole Orkest plays a pioneering role, regularly presents new talent, and embraces spectacle and experimentation.

Principal viola (60%)
Audition: 3 July 2026
As principal viola, you are an outstanding musician with leadership qualities, your own distinctive sound, strong technical skills, and a keen sense of ensemble playing. You actively contribute to realizing the artistic ambitions of the orchestra and feel at home in an environment where creativity, versatility, and excellence come together.

For the audition, invitations will be issued solely in accordance with regulations to:
·  Dutch musicians;
·  Foreign musicians from within the EEA (all EU countries, Iceland, Norway, and Liechtenstein) or Switzerland;
·  Musicians from outside the EEA and Switzerland who are resident in the Netherlands and are in possession of a statement stating “work freely permitted” or a valid residence permit.
The selection procedure
The selection consists of:
·  A preselection based on the submitted application;
·  An audition with two rounds (the first behind a screen);
·  A trial period in Metropole Orkest productions;
·  An interview regarding employment conditions.
Employment conditions:
Initial appointment for 12 months, with the prospect of a permanent position following interim evaluations. Salary is in accordance with the collective labor agreement (CAO) of the Metropole Orkest Foundation.
