The Arturo Toscanini Foundation announces an international competition for the permanent filling of the following positions in its Orchestras: PRINCIPAL VIOLA WITH OBLIGATION TO PLAY IN THE SECTION - No. 1 position Requirements for admission to the competition Minimum age of 18 years; Italian citizenship or citizenship of a European Union country. Citizens who are not members of the European Union and are legally residing in Italy are also admitted to the competition; Enjoyment of civil and political rights; 2nd level degree or Diploma of the Old System relating to the instrument for which the competition is announced, obtained from a Conservatory or equivalent Music Institute or equivalent certification for qualifications obtained abroad; Physical suitability for the job; Not having incurred criminal convictions for which dismissal from employment with the Public Administration is foreseen, as well as having been removed from previous employment for having obtained the appointment through false or flawed documents with incurable invalidity. The prescribed requirements must be met by the deadline for submitting the application for admission. The exams are scheduled, subject to changes that cannot be foreseen at the moment, at the headquarters of the Arturo Toscanini Foundation on 18 and 19 July 2026; the convocation will take place exclusively electronically to the address indicated by the candidate in the application for admission. Competitors must present themselves with a suitable, valid identity document and the complete material relating to the exam program. The Foundation will provide candidates with an accompanying pianist. However, the competitor may use his/her own accompanying pianist at his/her own expense. The competition will be structured according to the following phases: • ELIMINATION ROUND • SECOND ROUND • FINAL ROUND The commission reserves the right to admit directly to the second round or to the final round competitors whose artistic merits are considered of particular value. Absence from the tests will be considered in any case as a renunciation of the competition. The elimination round and the second round will take place in such a way as to guarantee the anonymity of the candidates. The judging panel may decide to structure the individual phases of the competition into multiple hearings. The judging panel and the candidates will be asked to avoid any contact or communication with the outside by deactivating and/or handing over any devices (smartphones, tablets, telephones, PCs or other) to the designated personnel. If a candidate violates the instructions received, he/she will be excluded from the competition. Participants in the competition are not entitled to any indemnity, compensation or reimbursement for travel and accommodation expenses. The lack of even one of the requirements requested by the announcement or the failure to produce the requested documents will result in exclusion from the competition or the cancellation of the tests taken. The exams taken by competitors whose declarations are found to be untrue or inaccurate will be considered null and void.
