Noémie Viaud

  • It’s when I started playing the violin at the age of 7 that I discovered violin making and my vocation for the craft was born.
In 1998, at the age of 15, I entered the French violin-making school in Mirecourt where I spent 5 years learning the basis of making and restoration. In 2003, after obtaining my diploma, I moved to Canada where I spent 3 months in Olivier Perot's workshop, Montréal, learning set-up. I then moved on to “The Sound Post” in Toronto where I spent nearly 2 years focusing on restoration and repair. In 2006, after 6 months working with restoration for U-Wenk-Wolff in Olso, Norway, I moved to Aarhus, Denmark, where I spent 7 years working for Jens Stenz, mainly making new instruments. The freedom that I have had in this workshop has allowed me to travel to improve and develop.

Among other things, I have had the chance to work twice in Frank Ravatin’s workshop which has been extremely enriching. I’m a regular participant of conferences, courses and of the renowned Oberlin workshop in USA: [see the video below]
Member of the VSA (violin society of America)
