The Opernhaus Zürich has announced that Italian conductor Riccardo Minasi has been appointed the first Artistic Director of the Orchestra La Scintilla.

Orchestra La Scintilla regularly performs at the Opernhaus Zürich. Outside the opera house, La Scintilla appears regularly in the large concert halls and gives concerts with well-known soloists, instrumentalists and singers such as Cecilia Bartoli, Rolando Villazon, Andreas Scholl and others.

“With this appointment, the Opernhaus Zürich continues a tradition founded by Nikolaus Harnoncourt, from which La Scintilla emerged more than 20 years ago – the only historically informed performance practice orchestra in the world whose members are also part of a permanent opera orchestra,” said Opernhaus Zürich’s Intendant Andreas Homoki.

“I am extremely happy to welcome Riccardo Minasi to the Opernhaus family … I am sure that his knowledge, enthusiasm, and inspiration, along with his fruitful relationship with La Scintilla, will bring extra excitement to Zürich,” said Opernhaus Zürich’s Music Director Gianandrea Noseda in an official statement.

Minasi has performed with the world’s top orchestras and opera houses, including the Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Salzburger Festspiele, Staatsoper Hamburg, and the Dutch National Opera, among others.
