Metropolitan Opera, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Renée Fleming & Joyce DiDonato Lead Classical Grammy Nominations

The Grammy Awards have announced their nominations for 2023 with the Metropolitan Opera leading the field in the classical categories.

In the Best Opera Recording category Matthew Aucoin’s “Eurydice” was nominated alongside Terrence Blanchard’s “Fire Shut up in my Bones” and Anthony Davis’ “X – The Life And Times Of Malcolm X”

“Eurydice” features Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Barry Banks, Nathan Berg, Joshua Hopkins, Erin Morley, and Jakub Józef Orliński. David Frost produced the record with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and The Metropolitan Opera Chorus.

“Fire Shut Up In My Bones” features Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Angel Blue, Will Liverman, Latonia Moore, and Walter Russell III. David Frost, produced and the record features the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and The Metropolitan Opera Chorus.

Gil Rose conducts “X”and features Ronnita Miller, Whitney Morrison, Victor Robertson and Davóne Tines as well as the Boston Modern Orchestra Project and Odyssey Opera Chorus.

In the Best Choral Performance category the nominees included Bach’s St. John Passion with John Eliot Gardiner, English Baroque Soloists, and Monteverdi Choir, “Born” with  Donald Nally, Dominic German, Maren Montalbano, Rebecca Myers, James Reese, and The Crossing, and Verdi’s Requiem The Met Remembers 9/11 with Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Donald Palumbo, Michelle DeYoung, Eric Owens, Ailyn Pérez, Matthew Polenzani, The Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and The Metropolitan Opera Chorus.

The Best Classical Compendium category features “An Adoption Story” by Starr Parodi and Kitt Wakeley, “Aspire” by JP Jofre and Seunghee Lee, “A Concert For Ukraine” by Yannick Nézet-Séguin, and “The Lost Birds” by Voces8.

Finally, the Best Classical Solo Vocal Album nominees are “Eden” by Joyce DiDonato, Maxim Emelyanychev, and Il Pomo D’Oro, “How Do I Find You” by Sasha Cooke, and  Kirill Kuzmin, and “Okpebholo: Lord, How Come Me Here?” by Will Liverman, Paul Sánchez, J’Nai Bridges and Caen Thomason-Redus.

The category is rounded out by “Stranger – Works For Tenor By Nico Muhly” by Nicholas Phan, Eric Jacobson, Brooklyn Rider & The Knights, and Reginald Mobley, and “Voice Of Nature – The Anthropocene” by Renée Fleming, and Yannick Nézet-Séguin.
