Winner of the senior division, violinist Ilva Eigus, receives €3,000 and a violin bow

The final round of the 16th Arthur Grumiaux International Violin Competition concluded on 14 April at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, Belgium. The competition was open to all nationalities and was divided into three categories according to age.

In the first category, for candidates up to the age of eleven, first prize was awarded to Ria Kang, receiving €1,000 and a masterclass with Ukrainian violinist Pavel Vernikov. Second prize of €450 was shared between Muqi Yuan and Wenjing Hu, and third prize of €200 went to Yibing Chen.

In the second category, for candidates aged 11–16, the first prize of €2,000 and a concert contract was won by Mio Imai. The second prize of €1,000 went to Philipp Chernomor, and third prize of €350 was won by Elina He.

In the third category, for candidates aged 16–22, the first prize was won by Ilva Eigus, receiving €3,000 and a violin bow. The second prize of €2,000 was awarded to Brandon Du, and third prize of €1,000 was won by Kento Hong.

The competition was established in 2008, with the aim of preparing young musicians for the stage and to highlight works by Belgian composers. This year’s jury comprised Michael Guttman, Svetlana Makarova, Robin Wilson, Rūta Lipinaitytė, and was chaired by artistic director George Tudorache.
