The Philharmonisches Orchester Altenburg Gera combines centuries-old musical tradition in the two cities that give it its name. In 2001, the Landeskapelle Altenburg and the Philharmonisches Orchester Gera merged to form a single ensemble, which is an integral part of the Theater Altenburg Gera. Since September 2020, Ruben Gazarian has been General Music Director of the orchestra, which currently comprises 71 positions and realizes various concert series (Philharmonic Concerts, School Concerts, Chamber Music) as well as special concerts at the two locations and participates in performances of musical theater (opera, operetta, musical), ballet and drama.
