Director of the Witold Lutosławski National Forum of Music
Olga Humeńczuk announces auditions for the position of:
Concertmaster / Concertmistress of the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic
 
Auditions will be held on October 5-6, 2026, in the ORLEN Main Hall
at the Witold Lutosławski National Forum of Music in Wrocław (NFM), Plac Wolności 1. They will be preceded by a preselection based on video recordings, which should be submitted with applications via the muvac.com platform by August 4, 2026.
Candidates will be informed of the preselection results by September 4, 2026.
Candidates selected in the first stage (preselection) will be invited to an in-person audition.

Stage I: pre-selection
Applicants are asked to submit a video recording of a performance of the following repertoire:
a) the first movement of one of the following violin concertos by W.A. Mozart
(with accompaniment):
Violin Concerto in G major, K. 216,
Violin Concerto in D major, K. 218,
Violin Concerto in A major, K. 219,
b) J.S. Bach Erbarme dich – aria from the St Matthew Passion, BWV 244,
c) R. Strauss Ein Heldenleben, Op. 40, TrV 190 – solo part.
Video recordings must be submitted as separate files, uncut and unedited. They must be recorded in the same location no earlier than 6 months before the date of submission to the NFM.
Stage II: in-person auditions
Candidates who qualify for Stage II (in-person auditions) will be asked to play the following repertoire (to piano accompaniment):
a) the first and second movements of one of the following violin concertos by W.A. Mozart:
Violin Concerto in G major, K. 216,
Violin Concerto in D major, K. 218,
Violin Concerto in A major, K. 219,
b) the first movement of one of the following concertos:
L. van Beethoven, Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 61,
J. Brahms, Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 77,
P. Tchaikovsky, Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 35,
J. Sibelius, Violin Concerto in D minor, Op. 47,
c) orchestral studies:
J.S. Bach Erbarme dich – aria from the St Matthew Passion, BWV 244,
R. Strauss Ein Heldenleben, Op. 40, TrV 190 – solo part,
N. Rimsky-Korsakov Scheherazade, Op. 35 – solo part,
R. Strauss Till Eulenspiegel, Op. 28, TrV 171 – solo part,
L. van Beethoven Missa solemnis in D major, Op. 123 – solo part,

Stage III: participation in selected rehearsals and concerts
A maximum of three candidates selected in the earlier stages will be invited to participate in selected rehearsals and concerts at the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic.
Please note:
1. Candidates selected in Stage I (pre-selection) will be invited
to participate in Stage II (in-person auditions).
2. A detailed schedule for Stage II will be announced after the application list closes.
3. The audition organiser does not reimburse any costs associated with participating
in the auditions (e.g., travel, accommodation, etc.).
4. The audition organiser provides an accompanist, but no prior rehearsal is possible. Performing with one’s own accompanist is not permitted.
5. Stage II (in-person auditions) may be divided into two parts, depending on the number of candidates. The Committee will make the decision after the candidate list is closed and will inform all invited participants in a detailed email.
6. Stage II (in-person auditions) will take place entirely behind a curtain, maintaining the anonymity of candidates.
7. Tuning instruments on stage is prohibited.
By registering for the auditions, candidates consent to the processing of their personal data provided in their application documents for the purposes of these auditions, other than those arising from the Labour Code. They also consent to the processing of their personal data provided in their application documents for the purposes of any other auditions, but for no longer than one year after the conclusion of these auditions.
Pursuant to Article 13 of the GDPR, we hereby inform you that:
● the controller of your personal data is the Witold Lutosławski National Forum of Music, Plac Wolności 1, Wrocław;
● regarding personal data processing, please contact the Data Protection Officer electronically at iod@nfm.wroclaw.pl;
● the purpose of collecting data is to ensure the smooth conduct of auditions;
● each job applicant has the right to access their data, the right to amend it, the right to request the controller to erase or restrict the processing of their data, the right to object to the processing of their personal data, the right to request the controller to cease the processing and transfer of data, and the right to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority, i.e. the President of the Personal Data Protection Office;
● providing personal data is voluntary, but necessary to ensure the proper conduct of the auditions
(if you do not provide your data, you will not be able to participate in the auditions);
● personal data will not be shared with third parties;
● personal data will not be subject to profiling;
● the NFM has no intention of transferring personal data to a third country
or international organisation;
● personal data will be stored for the duration of the auditions and for one year after their conclusion (after which time, all data will be destroyed).

NFM Wrocław Philharmonic is one of the leading symphony orchestras on the Polish music scene, a resident ensemble of the National Forum of Music in Wrocław, Poland. In recent years, the orchestra was conducted by, among others Jacek Kaspszyk, Benjamin Shwartz, Giovanni Antonini, Andrzej Boreyko, Philippe Herreweghe, Tõnu Kaljuste, Paul McCreesh, Eiji Oue, Krzysztof Penderecki, Stanisław Skrowaczewski, Lawrence Foster, Michael Schønwandt, Dima Slobodeniouk, Gilbert Varga, Mario Venzago and Antoni Witago. Since the 2017/2018 season, its artistic director has been Giancarlo Guerrero.
The orchestra collaborates with acclaimed soloists, such as Piotr Anderszewski, Yulianna Avdeeva, Radek Baborák, Seong-Jin Cho, Boris Giltburg, Kevin Kenner, Mariusz Kwiecień, Elisabeth Leonskaja, Jan Lisiecki, Marcin Masecki, Midori, Alexei Ogrintchouk, Garrick Ohlsson, Julian Rachlin, Sondra Radvanovsky, Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider, István Várdai, and Janusz Wawrowski.
The NFM Wrocław Philharmonic performs regularly in leading concert halls around the world. It gained special recognition in the symphonic repertoire of the 20th and 21st centuries, and regularly performs compositions commissioned by the National Forum of Music. They include works by, among others, Grażyna Pstrokońska-Nawratil, Elżbieta Sikora and Paweł Mykietyn.
The orchestra boasts an extensive phonographic catalogue. Its album with Arvo Pärt’s symphonies, recorded under the baton of Tõnu Kaljuste (ECM), won the International Classical Music Award in 2019. The album Hector Berlioz – Grande Messe des Morts 1837, recorded under the direction of Paul McCreesh was awarded by the BBC Music Magazine in 2012 in the “Technical Excellence” category. In Poland, the orchestra received a Fryderyk 2011 (Witold Lutosławski. Opera omnia: Symphonies No. 2 and 4, conducted by Jacek Kaspszyk) and numerous nominations for this award.
In 2021, an album of the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic –recorded with Bomsori Kim conducted by Giancarla Guerrero – was released on the Deutsche Grammophon label. Starting from 2024 The Artistic Director of the orchestra is Christoph Eschenbach.
