Aalborg Symphony Orchestra – Principal Second Violin
Join Our Orchestra
Aalborg Symphony Orchestra is a dynamic regional orchestra based in Musikkens Hus, one of Scandinavia's most distinguished concert venues, renowned for its world-class acoustics and architecture. We are driven by high artistic ambitions and a strong international outlook, and we are now looking for new colleagues to join our orchestra. Perhaps you are one of them.
The orchestra is based in Aalborg, the capital of North Jutland, beautifully situated by the Limfjord. The city combines a vibrant cultural and musical scene with the convenience and accessibility of a smaller city. Surrounded by the sea, fjord, and open landscapes, North Jutland offers exceptional natural beauty and a high quality of life, providing both tranquility and opportunities for an active lifestyle.
With us, you do not simply gain an exciting workplace. You become part of a supportive and inspiring community.
About the Orchestra
Founded in 1943, Aalborg Symphony Orchestra today consists of 65 full-time musicians.
Our core activity is the presentation of symphonic Thursday concerts featuring both Danish and international soloists and conductors. In addition, we perform opera and ballet productions with The Royal Danish Theatre and The Danish National Opera, film concerts, and crossover projects with artists from other musical genres.
Our extensive education and outreach programme for children and young people helps bring music to audiences of all ages throughout North Jutland.
The exceptional acoustics and unique setting of Musikkens Hus provide an outstanding platform for artistic excellence. We collaborate with leading soloists, conductors, and cultural institutions from Denmark and abroad to deliver performances of the highest quality. At the same time, we actively work to strengthen our visibility and expand our network, ensuring the orchestra remains an important contributor to Danish and international musical life.
A key focus for us is creating a workplace where wellbeing and artistic ambition go hand in hand.
Since 2023, the American conductor Joshua Weilerstein has served as Chief Conductor, while Michael Schønwandt holds the title of Honorary Conductor.
Our Values and Culture
At Aalborg Symphony Orchestra and Musikkens Hus, we work according to the vision:
People First.
We believe in a positive view of people and recognize that everyone contributes to wellbeing and job satisfaction.
We:

  • Bring energy to ourselves and each other.

  • Embrace diversity and different perspectives.

  • Speak with each other, not about each other.

  • Follow through on our commitments.

  • View leadership as a professional discipline.

As a section leader, you are expected to be a role model for positive behaviour and to create the conditions that enable every musician to reach their full potential while supporting the orchestra's ambitions.
We take responsibility when things go wrong and give credit to our colleagues when things go well.
These values are also reflected in our recruitment process. In addition to the musical assessment, shortlisted candidates will participate in an interview to ensure both artistic and personal compatibility with the orchestra. Applicants are therefore expected to identify with and support these principles.
