About the training programme
The Orchestra Academy of the Gürzenich Orchestra promotes young orchestral talent and sees itself as an international talent factory for gifted instrumentalists who are prepared for their professional careers after or towards the end of their studies.
In addition to rehearsals, concerts, performances, recordings and tours in one of Germany's highest-profile symphony and opera orchestras (up to 15 services per month), the training programme includes regular instrumental and chamber music lessons by members of the orchestra, workshops and coaching sessions to overcome performance anxiety and improve stage presence, as well as chamber concerts. The students are accompanied by mentors from the orchestra.
The duration of the programme is two years. The notice period is 4 weeks.
The conditions include a monthly salary of €900 gross from the Gürzenich Orchestra plus a €200 monthly stipend and an annual lump sum for reeds and strings from the Orchestra Academy Association.
Applicants' previous permanent temporary contracts in other orchestras must not have lasted longer than 12 months. Previous internships (also in different orchestras) and training programmes in academies of orchestras with a lower TVK classification may not exceed a maximum total duration of 24 months.
Further requirements:
Age limit: 27 years at the start of training
Certificate of enrolment recommended
German language skills level B1 desired, if these are not available, a German language course is strongly recommended at the beginning (ideally before the start) of the training programme.
