_____
In memory of the unforgotten Giuseppe Sinopoli and his tireless commitment to the next generation of musicians, the "Orchestra Academy of the Staatskapelle Dresden" was renamed the "Giuseppe Sinopoli Academy of the Staatskapelle Dresden" at a benefit concert on 21 April 2011 to mark the tenth anniversary of Sinopoli's death. This was an important sign of the continued existence and expansion of the orchestra academy, which now consists of up to 18 members. The training of young musicians has always played a special role for the Sächsische Staatskapelle. The orchestra's founding charter from 1548 already stipulates that the older generation should pass on their knowledge to the younger generation.
In the 19th century, a band musician founded the Dresden Conservatory, and in 1923 Fritz Busch established the "Orchestral School of the Saxon State Orchestra". Today, young musicians are taught by experienced orchestral musicians during their two-year training period and - ideally - prepared for an engagement in the Staatskapelle. It is this generation-spanning transfer of aesthetic ideas that ensures that the Staatskapelle's unique playing and sound culture is preserved for the future.
