Together with Bielefeld Theatre and the Rudolf-Oetker-Halle, the Bielefeld Philharmonic Orchestra forms the stages and orchestra of the city of Bielefeld.
The orchestra's work focuses on musical theatre productions with opera, musicals and dance at the Bielefeld Theatre as well as an extensive symphony concert programme with works ranging from baroque to contemporary world premieres.
Numerous special concerts such as film and open-air concerts as well as the Festival for New Music complete the programme. The musicians can also be experienced in smaller formations and as soloists in their own chamber concert series.
The Rudolf-Oetker-Halle, the Konzerthaus Bielefeld, which opened in 1930, with its special architecture and outstanding acoustics, is the concert home of the orchestra and provides the setting for concerts with internationally renowned soloists such as Frank Peter Zimmermann, Martin Helmchen, Håkan Hardenberger and others.
In a new jazz series at the Konzerthaus, the orchestra works together with artists such as Till Brönner, Take 6 and Magnus Lindgren as artist in residence.
The Bielefeld Philharmonic Orchestra is also involved in music education.
In addition to regular children's and youth concerts, there is a series of events called Klassik ab null / Klassik ab zwei, which introduces even the youngest children to classical music.
Instrument demonstrations in primary schools and rehearsal visits round off the programme.
