Ute Brinkmann

Was born and raised in Germany where she served an apprenticeship with the late Günther Hellwig (1903-1985), a dedicated master of the trade. She gained her journeyman's experience working with Hellwig's successor, and in 1987 received her master diploma in violin-making from the German Guild. Her project for this exam was to create a Pardessus de Viole (high treble viol) that received international attention for its workmanship and beauty.

Ms. Brinkmann continued her studies with the world-renown W.E. Hill & Sons in England where she developed a passion for the repair and restoration of violins, violas and cellos. It was there that she refined her skills at working on the finest instruments, including several Stradivarius. From then, her expertise took her to Japan where she worked as a restorer for Chaconne Co., Ltd. in Nagoya, after which she accepted a position as the manager of a prestigious violin shop in Connecticut.

Ms. Brinkmann currently works out of her own international violin restoration shop in Wallingford, Connecticut. Her passion, dedication and experience have made her one of the leading restorers of fine instruments. Simply put, she never tires of searching for any valuable piece so that she may rescue it and return it to the hands of a player.
