In 1977, Jan Strick’s passion and talent in lutherie were duly noted by Jacques Bernard. Heeding the advice of the master, Jan Strick was educated in France (Mirecourt and Angers), in the purest traditions of French lutherie. A close understanding proceeded to gradually bind the two men together, such that when he retired, Jacques Bernard asked Jan Strick to succeed him at ‘Maison Bernard’, the famous Liege home of lutherie. For the making of bows, Jacques Bernard chose Pierre Guillaume. From that moment onwards, the stringed instrument maker and the bow maker came to form a young and dynamic team. On further advice from Jacques Bernard, they installed the "Maison Bernard" in Brussels in 1986.
Heading his studio, Jan Strick is able to provide all the necessary services to musicians: instrument fabrication, repair and restoration, sale and purchase, expertise and advice. He is particularly specialised in expertise and in the study of stringed instruments of the Flemish school. Close to his heart is also the welcoming and training of young students in lutherie, by way of apprenticeships in his studio.
Located in the city centre, very close to the Brussels Royal Conservatory of Music, Maison Bernard is in contact with the majority of violinists, violists, cellists and bassists in Belgium, as well as with numerous musicians and luthiers in Europe, Asia and America.
A close relationship has been established with the celebrated Queen Elizabeth International Music Competition, which enables candidates to benefit from the services of Jan Strick and Pierre Guillaume throughout the trials. This has created international friendships that have been affirmed over the years.
Jan Strick is an Expert to the Brussels Prosecutor’s Office, member of the Chamber of Experts on works of art, and member of the International Association of Luthiers and Archetiers.

Jan Strick a été remarqué par Jacques Bernard dès 1977 pour sa passion et ses dons en lutherie. Sur les conseils du maître, il s’est formé en France, à Mirecourt et à Angers, dans les plus pures traditions de la lutherie française. Une entente étroite les lie peu à peu au point que lorsqu’il se retire, c’est à Jan Strick que Jacques Bernard confie la succession de la « Maison Bernard », célèbre maison de lutherie liégeoise. Pour l’archèterie, Jacques Bernard choisit Pierre Guillaume. Le luthier et l’archetier formeront désormais une équipe jeune et dynamique. Toujours sur les conseils de Jacques Bernard, ils installeront la Maison Bernard à Bruxelles, en 1986.
A la tête de son atelier, Jan Strick est à même d’offrir tous les services nécessaires aux musiciens : fabrication d’instruments, réparation et restauration, vente et achat, expertises et conseils. Il s’est particulièrement spécialisé en expertise et dans l’étude des instruments des instruments des luthiers de l’école flamande. Il tient à coeur également d’accueillir et de former les jeunes étudiants en lutherie lors de stages d’apprentissage dans son atelier.
Située au centre de la ville, tout près du Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles, la Maison Bernard est en relation avec la plupart des violonistes, altistes, violoncellistes et contrebassistes de Belgique, mais aussi de nombreux musiciens et luthiers d’Europe, d’Asie ou d’Amérique.
Une relation étroite s’est établie avec le célèbre Concours musical international Reine Elisabeth qui permet aux candidats de bénéficier des services de Jan Strick et de Pierre Guillaume tout au long des épreuves. Début d’amitiés internationales qui se confirmeront au fil des ans.
Jan Strick est expert auprès du Parquet de Bruxelles, Membre de la Chambre des Experts en oeuvres d’art et Membre de la Société internationale des luthiers et archetiers.
